Internet marketing is the promotion of products or services on the Internet as well as e-mail, wireless media, and related places. Internet marketing combines the creative, business, and technical aspects of the Internet like design, development, branding, advertising, and sales. Internet marketing also includes search-engine marketing (SEM), search-engine optimization (SEO), banner advertising, e-mail marketing, and Web 2.0 methods.
Search-engine optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing the presence of a website in (free) search results in search engines. In general, the earlier (or higher on the page), and more frequently a site appears in search results, the more traffic it will get. SEO may target different kinds of searches like image, local, video, and news.
Search-engine marketing (SEM) increases the visibility of websites in search engines with paid placement, contextual advertising, and paid inclusion. SEM can constitutes pay-per-click advertising, article submissions, and direct advertising. Another form of SEM is social-media marketing (SMM).
Pay-per-click (PPC) is an Internet-based advertising system used to direct click-based traffic to websites by paying the hosting service when advertisements are clicked. In search engines, advertisers bid for their ads to appear in searches for specific keyword-phrases that are relevant to their targeted customers and market. Content sites commonly charge a fixed price for each click rather than use a bidding system as with search engines.
